Because there was so much interest and so many applications last year, UNIQA is once again launching the "training campaign" it began for young journalists in 2002 (maximum age: 29) within the framework of the Salzburg Festival. The "gates to the UNIQA practical college" are now opened for young culturally interested journalists – particularly from eight European countries in Central and Eastern Europe – offering them a unique and exciting opportunity.
The first College for Journalists held in 2002 was the object of great interest among junior journalists - over 100 candidates applied for the special training. The reopening will take place this year from August 2-9 in Salzburg. It appeals to junior journalists (in the fields of commerce and culture) from Poland, the Czech Republic, Northern Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Austria, i.e. from those European countries where UNIQA is most active. “With the College for Journalists we would like to break through cultural and geographical boundaries – above all with an eye on the EU enlargement to the East” explains Andreas Brandstetter, UNIQA's Member of the Board in charge of International Business.
During the one-week “cultural seminar” we will offer exclusive topics: In addition to discussions with experts, lectures on journalistic theory and practically oriented projects with academic and media professionals, College participants can also take a look behind the scenes and over the shoulders of the Salzburg Festival organizers. Helga Rabl-Stadler, the President of the Salzburg Festival, is convinced that: Thanks to UNIQA, the Salzburg Festival will be a unique and incomparable experience for 20 young journalists. Glances into the press business as well as admission to Salzburg Festival archives that are not open to the general public, contacts to national and international stars and prominent people, exclusive access to side stages and behind the scenes – through this program they can fully grasp the dimensions of a major cultural event and experience it right up close.
“UNIQA is deeply involved as an active partner for transmitting art and culture”, says the Helga Rabl-Stadler, “we are very pleased to see such innovative commitment. The practical College initiated by UNIQA offers young talents something unique and unforgettable – it enables them to experience a major cultural institution like the Salzburg Festival from within”.
Applications can be made online through the reactivated application website and platform of the “College for Journalists” under http://www.uniqa-college.com or by regular mail (see below for the address). In addition to a curriculum vitae and an essay on your motivation for application, text samples are also required. The best 20 will be nominated by an expert jury.UNIQA is covering the costs of the practical week and all travel expenses.
